User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great
I’m really enjoying this book!

I’ve read many books on this topic. I especially enjoyed the language she uses, and her perspective on sexuality, patriarchy and the characteristics of ED’s.

I like the emphasis on self-acceptance.

5 Stars The ONLY book that has ever WORKED for me!!!
I have struggled with disordered eating ever since adolescence - but have FINALLY overcome it thanks to this book. Off and on for years, I would manage to take off excess weight, but only maintain that healthy weight for a brief time before gaining it all back (plus a little more). Since reading this book, I have finally managed to stop my emotional eating, and instead eat for enjoyment and sustenance. I am finally a happy, healthy, WHOLE, and fulfilled person. Thank you Dr. Johnston!

5 Stars Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationship with Food Through Myths, Metaphors, and Storytelling
This is a sensitive and insightful book for woman who have struggled with their body image or their relationship with food and eating.

Not too technical or theraputic, it uses stories to demonstrate the issues women face in our culture that promote a false sense of what it is to be feminine and attractive.

I would also recommend it for men with a daughter or sister that have struggled with issues of diet, weight and body image.

5 Stars the best
The best book written on this subject. The author uses a different approach than other books I have read and the fables make the book a more interesting read. Very much recommended.

5 Stars Very uplifting and inspiring
I purchased this book based on the high reviews it was given, because the description is not what I typically seek when looking for help with eating. However, I am so glad I did. This book is truly nurturing and helps us remember to honor ourselves and being feminine. I was also dealing with other insecurities that this book helped with such as body image and relationships. Very interesting and entertaining as well! I wish there were more books written by Anita Johnston!

Eating the Sun How Plants Power the Planet

Eating the Sun How Plants Power the Planet

Starred Review. The cycle of photosynthesis is the cycle of life, says science journalist Morton (Mapping Mars). Green leaves trap sunlight and use it to absorb carbon dioxide from the air and emit life-giving oxygen in its place. Indeed, plants likely created Earth’s life-friendly oxygen- and nitrogen-rich biosphere. In the first part, Morton, chief news and features editor of the leading science journal, Nature, traces scientists’ quest to understand how photosynthesis works at the molecular level. In part two, Morton addresses evidence of how plants may have kick-started the complex life cycle on Earth. The book’s final part considers photosynthesis in relation to global warming, for, he says, the Earth’s plant-based balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen is broken: in burning vast amounts of fossil fuels, we are emitting more carbon dioxide than the plants can absorb. But Morton also explores the possibility that our understanding of photosynthesis might be harnessed to regain that balance. Readers should persevere through (or skim) the more technical discussions in the first part, for what follows is a vast, elegant synthesis of biology, physics and environmental science that can inform our discussions of urgent issues.
